Benjamin Cohen, director of research and evaluation, is responsible for the management, design and quality of research and evaluation projects at the Center for Schools and Communities (Center). Cohen regularly collects and organizes complex datasets of quantitative and qualitative data and develops detailed analyses of them using a variety of methods (from regression models to thematic analysis) and software. His specific work includes, but is not limited to: managing a quantitative and qualitative evaluation of the STEM afterschool projects funded by the Noyce Foundation and the Heinz Endowments; developing a mixed-methodology, quasi-experimental evaluation to assess schoolwide bullying program fidelity; and an evaluation of an innovative novice teacher preparation program using a case control design in collaboration with Penn State University, Harrisburg, Pa.
Cohen is a member of the Board of the Eastern Evaluation Research Society and has published in peer reviewed journals. Prior to working at the Center, he was a research analyst at the American Institutes for Research in Washington D.C.
